Why did we choose this name?
We wanted to find a name that reflected our way of working, and that at the same time was catchy and easy to spell out. On top of this, it had to be a word that would be understood by international people since we work with individuals from all over the world. As you can imagine, we soon realised that coming up with a name for a company was nearly as hard as choosing your child’s name!
‘Open’ met our criteria since it depicts many concepts at once.
On the one hand, it refers to our values of being inclusive and non-judgmental, indicating how therapy will be a safe place where you can be vulnerable and share your most painful thoughts and feelings. In the same way, we are not just open to people from all backgrounds, but also open to offer sessions in person as well as online to provide easy access to therapy regardless of each person’s circumstances.
On the other hand, we felt that the name ‘Open’ shows how going to therapy also reflects how a person is being open to change by deciding that, for whatever their reason, they would like to find another way forward.
Lastly, ‘Open’ also encompasses how in therapy we gain full awareness of what we are experiencing in a mindful way, noticing what is happening and then learning alternative coping skills to the ones that have been used until now.
We also decided to add ‘Moving forward’ as a way of highlighting the behavioural aspect of therapy. The way we work is not merely ‘talk therapy’; in fact, our goal is to teach skills to put into practice in and outside of our sessions to make a difference in our lives. Many times we find that part of the reason why people come to therapy is because they find themselves stuck in their thoughts or feelings, being disconnected from the things that really matter in their lives. Therefore, we would work together to reduce the influence of these difficult thoughts and feelings and instead take action in the direction of leading a more meaningful life.
We hope to have been able to reflect these values with the choice of name, but most importantly we look forward to meeting you and helping you begin this transformative journey.
